We started Ryu because most software gets built by people who are optimizing for the wrong thing — a deck, a demo, a headcount, a quarter. We optimize for the thing actually working, for the people actually using it. Everything below follows from that.
Ship the thing, not the deck.
A roadmap slide is not a product. A demo video is not a product. We measure our own work by what's running in production, being used by real people, on a random Tuesday — not by how it looked in the pitch meeting.
Honesty is a feature.
If your idea isn't ready, we'll say so before we take your money. If a deadline is unrealistic, we'll say so before you promise it to your board. We'd rather lose an engagement for being blunt than win one by being agreeable and wrong.
AI is a tool, not a personality.
We use AI heavily — in our own workflow and in what we build for clients — because it makes real work faster, not because it's a good story. We don't ship AI features that exist to be announced rather than used. If a rules engine solves it better than a model, we ship the rules engine.
Boring infrastructure is a compliment.
The best infrastructure is the kind nobody thinks about. We'd rather build something unremarkable that survives a traffic spike than something clever that pages you at 3am. Reliability isn't glamorous, and that's exactly why most teams underinvest in it.
We say no more than we say yes.
Every feature we build is a feature we have to maintain, and every client we take on is a client we can't fully serve if we're stretched too thin. We turn down work that isn't a fit, and we cut scope that doesn't earn its place — for us and for the products we build.
Small team, real ownership.
We stay small on purpose. Every person on an engagement is someone you can actually talk to, who was in the room for the scoping call and will be in the room when it ships. That doesn't scale to a thousand clients. It's not supposed to.
